Saturday May 1st 2021.......what looks like a good fishing day ahead. Decent cloud cover with occasional sunny spells, water temperature holding at 8 degrees Celsius and a not too cold light breeze from the N/NNE. A small chance of rain depending on which forecast you want to believe so bring some waterproofs in case. We’re fully booked for boats today but there’s still plenty of room for bank anglers and float tubes. Yesterday’s returns were excellent with pride of place going to the Scott/Payne boat who covered the water with various methods for their 26 fish. Accessibility was also in action with John, at 88 years young, catching a smashing looking rainbow on an intermediate line close to the Pioner Multi 3 boat guided by Troy. 😎😎😎 Rod average is on the rise now at over 5 per angler for the week so come and have a go. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Friday 30th April 2021.....always good to see a grin on an angler’s face and early bird Gerald Unwin (on his DCAC ticket) chose to catch a fish as Troy and I were cleaning down the Pioner boats on the Accessible pontoon. Well played Gerald! πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Thursday 29th April 2021.......Lofty has been busy plaiting these colourful Para-Chord Carabiners. A useful addition to an anglers armoury, particular tube and boat fishermen, they’re available exclusively from the Ladybower Tackle Shop for the princely sum of Β£5.00 each with all proceeds going to β€˜Fishing For Heroes’. πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Tuesday 13th April 2021......Taxi Pete may have retired but he’s still gracing us with his presence, yesterday utilising the advantages of our new casting platform to get to the great total of β€˜I lost count after 12’ mostly on Cat’s Whisker Puddle Bugs fished static in the upper layers. Good value for money and always up for a bit of banter is our Taxi Pete......and that’s how we like it. 😎😎😎 Fish are still largely in the margin areas all around the reservoir so pop down and catch a few. πŸ‘ http://bit.ly/CATS-PUDDLE-BUG

Monday 12th April 2021.......Restrictions relaxed still further so we expect the lot of you to have managed a haircut before visiting now.....πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ A glorious view of the reservoir this morning with a light covering of snow on the fields and hills. Trout are rising all over in the main basin despite the cold so it’s looking good for those able to pop down for a spot of fishing. The cold spell with the water temperature dropping marginally to around 6 degrees hasn’t affected things as much as we thought it might and the rod average remains at a respectable 4.8, slightly down on last week but still excellent for the conditions. Bank anglers continue to enjoy the bulk of the catches with fish still hugging the margins although skilful boat handling will pay dividends for those having a day afloat, a good example being regular, Kevin Nevins catching 15 on his most recent trip. The stocking of the Derwent and Snake arms seems to have paid off as fish are still being caught regularly up there as well as the small beach in Ladybower Bay. Fly and line choice has been many and varied with floating, intermediate and sink tip lines all figuring as well as all the usual favourites of Snatchers, Puddle Bugs, Dog Nobblers and Boobies as terminal tackle. The general rule seems to be fishing slow and searching the upper layers where most of the fish have been nabbed. Anyway......that’s quite enough for now. Looking forward to seeing you all soon. 😎😎😎😎

Tuesday 6th April 2021.......A short summary of the first week back at Ladybower Fisheries. 😎 Weather forecasts, that later proved to be quite inaccurate, caused a flurry of bookings to be moved back although those that persisted were rewarded with some decent fishing. Bank anglers in particular scored very well as the fish were largely hugging the shoreline. Mill Brook, Grainfoot, Pickles and Raspberry Bay all gave good returns as did the small part of Ladybower Bay still fishable with the reservoir almost full of water. Patterns and tactics varied although the popular Orange Dog Nobbler accounted for a large proportion of trout caught, fished slowly with the tail pinched back a bit, mainly on floating and intermediate lines. Float tubes did well in the first part of the week (until the wind got a bit too much later on) with slow sinking lines, Iain’s Ladybower Buzzer and Boobies featuring in the returns. Boats fared OK when the waves permitted with sinking lines again seeming to be the way to go although fish looked to be holding in the top ten feet of water with the temperature being around the 7 degree mark most of the week. Rod average fell off a little with the cold snap but still finished the week with a respectable 5.5 across the board. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ http://bit.ly/DOG-NOBBLER
